HVAC Company Was Bigger Than I Thought
An HVAC Company Was Not The Plan
By the time I got to college, I thought I had my path figured out and an HVAC Company was not on that path.
Graduate. Get a job. Build a career somewhere.
Pretty standard.
Meanwhile, back home, AAA Heating & Air wasn’t the same small operation I grew up around anymore.
It was growing and fast.
More trucks. More calls. More people depending on it—both employees and customers.
But if I’m being honest, I still didn’t fully understand what that meant.
From “Helping Out” to Seeing the Entire HVAC Company
When I came home during breaks, I’d jump in where I could.
At first, it felt familiar—kind of like the old days.
But it didn’t take long to realize… this wasn’t the same company.
There was structure now.
Schedules had to be tight
Installs had to be coordinated
Calls were stacked back-to-back
Customers were depending on us every single day
This wasn’t just a guy in a van anymore.
This was a full operation.
The Moment It Hit Me
There wasn’t one big dramatic moment.
It was a series of small ones.
Seeing multiple crews roll out in the morning.
Watching phones ring nonstop.
Hearing conversations about payroll, overhead, and making sure everyone got paid on time.
That’s when it clicked:
This wasn’t just about fixing HVAC systems.
This was a business that families depended on—for comfort, yes—but also for livelihood.
Employees had mortgages.
They had kids.
And this company was helping support all of that.
A Different Kind of Pressure
When you’re younger, you don’t think about things like that.
You don’t think about what happens if a week goes bad.
You don’t think about what it takes to keep everything moving.
But seeing it up close during those college years changed that.
There’s pressure that comes with growth.
Not the kind that breaks you—but the kind that forces you to level up.
Every decision matters more.
Every mistake carries more weight.
Why An HVAC Company Isn’t Just About Size
A lot of companies grow.
But not all of them grow the right way.
What stood out to me about AAA Heating & Air during that time wasn’t just that it was getting bigger…
It was that the standard never changed.
- Customers were still treated like people—not numbers
- Jobs were still done the right way, not the fast way
- Reputation still mattered more than shortcuts
That’s not easy to maintain as things scale.
But it’s what separates a company that lasts from one that fades out.
Looking Back Now
At the time, I didn’t realize how important those years were for me.
I was just in the middle of it.
But looking back, that’s when my perspective shifted.
I stopped seeing it as “my dad’s company.”
And started seeing it as something I could be a part of.
Something worth investing in.
Final Thought
Growth changes things.
It adds complexity. It adds pressure.
But if you do it right, it also builds something bigger than you ever expected.
That’s what I got to witness during those college years.
And it’s a big part of why I believe in what we’re building today at AAA Heating & Air.
