Summers Looked Different Growing Up in an HVAC Family
I grew up in an HVAC family that built its life around heating and air conditioning. When the temperatures climbed into the 90s—and sometimes well beyond—that wasn’t vacation season. It was our busiest time of the year.
I remember watching the trucks leave before the sun was fully up and many nights not seeing them return until it was getting dark. While other families planned beach trips, ours planned around service calls and installation schedules. Looking back, I didn’t fully understand it then, but I do now.
When South Carolina gets hot, people need help.
As I got older, I started helping wherever I could. I spent summers in the warehouse organizing equipment, cleaning trucks, loading materials, and eventually hauling old units to the scrap yard after installations. Anyone who’s ever carried a rusted-out air handler through a scorching attic knows there isn’t anything glamorous about this business.
I can still remember the smell of hot sheet metal, the sound of compressors running nonstop, and stepping into attics that felt more like ovens than workspaces.
Those experiences taught me something I couldn’t have learned in a classroom.
Every service call represents a family trying to stay comfortable. Sometimes it’s parents with young children who can’t get the house cool enough to sleep. Sometimes it’s an elderly couple whose air conditioner stopped working during a heat wave. Other times it’s someone worried about how they’re going to afford an unexpected repair.
Behind every address on the schedule is a real family counting on someone to show up.
That’s why this business has always been personal to us.
Over the years, I’ve watched AAA Heating & Air grow from a family business into the largest privately owned heating and air company in our area. We have more technicians, more installers, more trucks, and more resources than ever before.
Growth has allowed us to serve more homeowners across the Midlands, respond faster during peak summer demand, and invest in training and technology that helps our team do their jobs even better.
But growth hasn’t changed who we are.
HVAC Family Values Equal Lasting Customer Relationships
The values I grew up watching my parents build this company on are still the values we expect from every member of our team today.
Today, I have the privilege of helping lead the administrative side of the business. From dispatch and customer communication to payroll, human resources, and improving our internal processes, I’ve had the opportunity to work in nearly every corner of the company.
That perspective has shown me something many homeowners never get to see.
Exceptional service doesn’t begin when the technician rings your doorbell.
It starts with the customer service representative answering your phone call. It continues with dispatch coordinating schedules, warehouse staff making sure parts are available, installers preparing equipment, office staff processing paperwork, and technicians who refuse to cut corners because they know every job reflects our family’s name.
When everything works together, customers simply experience a company that cares.
Summer is still our busiest season.
The phones ring constantly. The schedule fills up quickly. Our technicians spend long days working in extreme heat so families can come home to a cool, comfortable house.
Growing up in this industry gave me a deep appreciation for what our employees do every single day. It also reminds me why our customers continue to trust us year after year.
We’ve become one of the largest privately owned HVAC companies in the Midlands, but we’ve never wanted to lose the feeling of being a family business.
The trucks may have multiplied, our team may have grown, and our service area may be larger than it was years ago, but our mission remains the same as it was when I was a kid riding around the warehouse.
