A Day I’ll Never Forget<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There are a lot of days I remember riding around on HVAC service calls with my dad.<\/p>\n

Most of them blur together.<\/p>\n

Hot truck.
Long drives across Columbia.
In and out of houses where the AC wasn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n

But one day has always stood out.<\/p>\n

Not because of the work.<\/p>\n

Because of a stop we made in between.<\/p>\n

Just Riding Along Like Always<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At that point, riding along with my Dad was just normal. Breakfast at Hardees, Lunch at McDonalds and then home. Service calls scattered between.<\/p>\n

We\u2019d be running HVAC service calls all over Columbia<\/a>, West Columbia<\/a>, and Lexington<\/a>. I wasn\u2019t thinking about business or systems or anything like that.<\/p>\n

I was just there hanging out with Dad and playing my Gameboy inbetween stops.<\/p>\n

At each stop I was watching, helping when I could.<\/p>\n

It was usually hot.<\/p>\n

Like really hot.<\/p>\n

The kind of South Carolina heat where your shirt sticks to you before the day even really gets started.<\/p>\n

A Quick Stop Between Calls<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Somewhere in between service calls, he pulled into Best Buy.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t think anything of it. Palm Pilots had just come out and he said he needed to grab something for one of them.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t unusual to stop somewhere quick during the day. Grab something to drink. Take a break for a few minutes before heading to the next house.<\/p>\n

But this time was different. Usually I would stay in the truck, but he asked me to come inside.<\/p>\n

He told me to pick out a new game because he noticed I had been playing the same one for the last three weeks.<\/p>\n

The game I picked out was “Pokemon: Yellow Version”<\/p>\n

At the Time, It Was Just a Game<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Back then, Pokemon: Yellow Version was honestly jsut another game to me. I knew it had been hyped up, but it was really something that just made the ride a little more exciting.<\/p>\n

We got right back to it after that. Dad fixing systems and me playing Gameboy.<\/p>\n

That stop was only a half an hour. Just long enough to grab the game, a couple of cases for the Palm Pilots and something to drink.<\/p>\n

After that, the day just kept moving like it always did.<\/p>\n

Now That Day Means Something Completely Different<\/strong><\/h3>\n

That same game now is worth more than I ever would\u2019ve imagined back then.<\/p>\n

If I\u2019m being honest, if I could go back to that exact moment, I\u2019d probably tell him:<\/p>\n

\u201cBuy every one they\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just so we could leave the majority of them sealed. We would be rich!<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not really what matters.<\/p>\n

What sticks with me now isn\u2019t the value of the game.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the moment itself.<\/p>\n

What I Didn\u2019t Realize Back Then<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At the time, I thought I was just tagging along on HVAC service calls.<\/p>\n

But looking back, I was watching something I didn\u2019t fully understand yet.<\/p>\n

Long days.
\nShowing up when people needed help.
\nRunning call after call across Columbia in the middle of the summer.<\/p>\n

And somewhere in the middle of all that, still making time for something small that mattered to me.<\/p>\n

No big deal.<\/p>\n

Just part of the day.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s What Stuck<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The game just happens to be the thing I remember.<\/p>\n

But it could\u2019ve been anything.<\/p>\n

Because the real thing that stuck was what those days actually looked like.<\/p>\n

Work first.
\nPeople first.
\nResponsibility first.<\/p>\n

And everything else just fit in where it could.<\/p>\n

What That Means to Me Now<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Now, when I think about HVAC service in Columbia, SC, I don\u2019t just think about repairs or equipment.<\/p>\n

I think about those days.<\/p>\n

Running calls.
\nHelping people when their systems went down.
\nAnd the kind of work it takes to keep showing up day after day.<\/p>\n

Because that\u2019s what I grew up around.<\/p>\n

And whether homeowners see it or not, that\u2019s still what drives how this business operates today.<\/p>\n
